These playful manifestations of cultural root have stayed in the course of time thanks to popular participation and lately to the work of some specialists of the topic investigation.
Among the most significant and practised field games in Lanzarote we will mentian the Lucha de Garrote y Lata (Fight with Truncheon and Can), Lanzamiento y Esquiva de Piedras (Stone Launching and Avoiding), Juego del Palo (Game with Stick), Salto del Pastor (Jump of the Shepherd), Salto de la Vara (Jump with Stick), Vela Latina (Latin Candle), Barquillos (Small boats) , Pelotamano (ball in hand), Bola Canaria (Canary Ball), Arrastre de Ganado (Haulage ofLivestock), Piña (Pineapple), Billarda (Billiards), and Levantamiento de Arado (Rising of Plow).

An important group of these games was already practiced in the aboriginal culture. The economic activities have their origin and relationship with these games. In general, they are very similar games from other towns. There are other games coming from the establishment ofthe Europeans. Thus, the Pelotamano and the Games with Balls were introduced by the conquerors, with all security, at the beginning of the XV century.

Saloon games are also broadly represented: Seiseño, Tute, Politana, La Primera (the First one), El Burro (the Donkey), Brisca or El Truco (Trick).

At the present time, the traditional games are in fashion after persisting for not disappearing. For that reason it is easy to see some of these games in the towns ofLanzarote; in their gathering and theirfiestas. The most practiced is the Game of the Skittles.
Long live traditional games!
