Nature Monument of Islote de Halcones
Total of 10,6 hectares in the municipality of Yaiza, inside the National Park of Timanfaya. The perimeter surrounds the Island completely, being adjusted to the contact of historical basaltic calderas with the oldest materials not buried by them.

It is a caldera of 104 m. high, of a horseshoe shape formed by old materials (Series III) in an advanced erosion state. It is of reddish tonality.

The study of these islands is of great importance as due to its biology concern. The species which were not buried by the lava of the Timanfaya are still alive. These species are important since they have followed their evolution separated from any external inf1uence. This particular evaluation and the degree of colonization of the surrounding lava can be studied. They have become genetic centres in a state of difficult development.

As for the plant population of this island, 90 different species have be en counted from among those that are highlighted, for their abundance, furzes and sweet tabaibas that cover the hillsides oriented to the north.

The scarab is the most representative wildlife.

The access to this place is restricted and it is only possible under authorization of the Administration of the National Park of Timanfaya.
